ππππ I hate Gauguin.

Loved this buzzfeed β I appreciate the ones that arenβt dependent on profanity > those that are. http://www.buzzfeed.com/kmallikarjuna/art-history-snapchats-that-will-give-you-life?s=mobile

This post was originally supposed to be about Jeff Koons, but once I found out that Fulham’s Craven Cottage had (until recently) its own Michael Jackson sculpture…well, Koons can wait.
Mohamed Al Fayed (his son was Princess Diana’s boyfriend Dodi) sold Fulham FC last summer. An avid fan of Jackson (is there any other kind?!), Al Fayed installed the statue in front of the Fulham’s fan stand in 2011. Needless to say, reactions were mixed.
The new owner of the FFC (Shahid Khan, who owns the Jacksonville Jaguars), has since said, “Or nah,” to the statue sticking around post-Al Fayed. The removal occurred in May.

The 7th Annual Doodle 4 Google image was unveiled this morning. The contest asked students to create an invention that would make the world a better place.Β
The winner? Audrey Zhang, 11.
100,000 submissions, 250 state finalists, 50 state winners, and 5 national age group winners. Go, girl!
“To make the world a better place, I invented a transformative water purifier. It takes in dirty and polluted water from rivers, lakes, and even oceans, then massively transforms the water into clean, safe and sanitary water, when humans and animals drink this water, they will live a healthier life.”

Late last week, it was announced that Francis Bacon’s portrait of Lucien FreudΒ was going up for auction. The owner? Renowned children’s author Roald Dahl.
He bought the painting with the profits he made from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 1967. The work is projected to sell for $20 million.
So, a lot of Bacons.

Sally Mann’s Immediate Family came out in 1992. You know what else came out in 1992?! A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN. And let me tell you, I watched the Season 2 premiere of Orange is the New Black, and Lori Petty hasn’t aged nearly as well as these beautiful photographs.Β

General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler all threw down a cool $26 million to help save the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum’s permanent collection.
Today’s math:
$26 million (what was given) Γ·Β $816 million dollars (what the DIA’s works are worth) = 3% (the proverbial drop in the bucket).
Don’t worry: The DIA is hosting a Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo exhibition next year.
That’ll reel ‘em in — here’s hoping Detroit hired Salma Hayek to sit as an installation drinking milk. You go, Frida!

I love, love, love a good dilapidation series. Photographer Frank Relle and his take of New Orleans architecture were featured on the Huffington Post this morning.

Sometimes art is a well-manicured, presidential island.
