This post was originally supposed to be about Jeff Koons, but once I found out that Fulham’s Craven Cottage had (until recently) its own Michael Jackson sculpture…well, Koons can wait.
Mohamed Al Fayed (his son was Princess Diana’s boyfriend Dodi) sold Fulham FC last summer. An avid fan of Jackson (is there any other kind?!), Al Fayed installed the statue in front of the Fulham’s fan stand in 2011. Needless to say, reactions were mixed.
The new owner of the FFC (Shahid Khan, who owns the Jacksonville Jaguars), has since said, “Or nah,” to the statue sticking around post-Al Fayed. The removal occurred in May.
