things i told the internet, but didn’t tell my mom

Photographer Anna Ladd beats me to the punch (people need to stop doing that), and develops a cool way to tell the Internet all the secrets we can’t quite tell our moms. With stencils and streamers.

My contribution to the project would be something about my tattoos, but I already told my mom about that in a series of emojis.

keeping up with the modigliani

Ah, summer vacation: 10 days dedicated to crap television and plenty of art exhibitions. I’m starting my week with the former, but never fear — there’s plenty of ridiculous art news on E!’s “Pop of Culture.”

Bustle did an exceptional job recapping the drama behind Kourtney and Scott inheriting a fake Modigliani in the most recent episode. She called Modigliani “major,” and Khloe called it “hideous.”

Never have I put any trust or faith in anything the Kardashians say, do, or brand for Sears. However, I would go ahead and join Kourtney’s ranks of calling Modigliani “major.”

😂😂😂😂 I hate Gauguin.

michael jackson

This post was originally supposed to be about Jeff Koons, but once I found out that Fulham’s Craven Cottage had (until recently) its own Michael Jackson sculpture…well, Koons can wait.

Mohamed Al Fayed (his son was Princess Diana’s boyfriend Dodi) sold Fulham FC last summer. An avid fan of Jackson (is there any other kind?!), Al Fayed installed the statue in front of the Fulham’s fan stand in 2011. Needless to say, reactions were mixed.

The new owner of the FFC (Shahid Khan, who owns the Jacksonville Jaguars), has since said, “Or nah,” to the statue sticking around post-Al Fayed. The removal occurred in May.

doodle 4 google

The 7th Annual Doodle 4 Google image was unveiled this morning. The contest asked students to create an invention that would make the world a better place.

The winner? Audrey Zhang, 11.

100,000 submissions, 250 state finalists, 50 state winners, and 5 national age group winners. Go, girl!

“To make the world a better place, I invented a transformative water purifier. It takes in dirty and polluted water from rivers, lakes, and even oceans, then massively transforms the water into clean, safe and sanitary water, when humans and animals drink this water, they will live a healthier life.”

bringing home bacon

Late last week, it was announced that Francis Bacon’s portrait of Lucien Freud was going up for auction. The owner? Renowned children’s author Roald Dahl.

He bought the painting with the profits he made from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 1967. The work is projected to sell for $20 million.

So, a lot of Bacons.

sally mann

Sally Mann’s Immediate Family came out in 1992. You know what else came out in 1992?! A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN. And let me tell you, I watched the Season 2 premiere of Orange is the New Black, and Lori Petty hasn’t aged nearly as well as these beautiful photographs.

automakers help DIA

image

General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler all threw down a cool $26 million to help save the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum’s permanent collection.

Today’s math:

$26 million (what was given) ÷ $816 million dollars (what the DIA’s works are worth) = 3% (the proverbial drop in the bucket).

Don’t worry: The DIA is hosting a Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo exhibition next year.

That’ll reel ‘em in — here’s hoping Detroit hired Salma Hayek to sit as an installation drinking milk. You go, Frida!
